| Discovering Detroit Shoreway: Points of Interest | Dining | Culture & Entertainment Lorain Avenue Antiques District | Places of Worship | Parks & Recreation One of Cleveland's oldest and most diverse neighborhoods, Detroit Shoreway is where you will find the the Cleveland Public Theater, Edgewater Lakefront Park, The Gordon Square Arts District, the Lorain Avenue Antiques District, old homes, cottages and mansions in two National Register Historic Districts and helpful shopkeepers and friendly neighbors.
One of the real joys of the neighborhood is discovering new restaurants. From the eastern and Hispanic foods of Cleveland's newest ethnic groups to delicious American favorites, Detroit Shoreway delights diners of every taste. Go to the Dining section of this web site to learn more. The Cleveland Public Theater, The Gordon Square Arts District, bingo and ethnic festivals give Detroit Shoreway attractions year-round. Go to the Culture & Entertainment section of this web site and find something to do tonight. Great buys and bargains await in the Lorain Avenue Antiques District. Furniture, china and glass ware, architectural antiques, collectables and vintage items from primitives to modern, are to be found on Lorain Avenue. Places of worship in Detroit Shoreway include a Buddist Temple, a new Hispanic parish, and Mt. Carmel Church, constructed by ethnic Italians and patterned after a traditional Tuscan parish.
Two of the most impressive churches in Cleveland are just north of Lorain Avenue. St. Steven Church, on W.54 St., is a towering sandstone Gothic building built by a German ethnic parish, and St. Colman Church, a magnificent Italian Rennisance limestone landmark on W. 65 St., constructed by, and still a magnet for, the west side's Irish Catholics. Although among the most impressive buildings in the city, they, and other more modest structures throughout Detriot Shoreway, are functioning places of worship. They welcome visitors to their services who wish to learn about or share their traditions, as well as those who share their religious beliefs. Parks and recreation are one of Detroit Shoreway's attractions. Edgewater Lakefront Park is the crown jewel of northeast Ohio's parks. The panoramic views from the top of the bluffs include downtown to the east, the lake, beaches, sail boats and freighters, and the Gold Coast's condos and high-rise apartments to the west. It provides the community with swimming, boating, fishing and acess to the nine-mile lakefront bike trail. Community parks dot the neighborhood, and the Michael Zone Recreation Center at Lorain and W.65 St. offers year-round fun with an indoor pool, track, and handball courts. It also has numerous outdoor playing fields and basket ball courts.
