Storefront Renovation
Loan Program
In partnership with the City of Cleveland's Community Development Office, Detroit Shoreway offers the Storefront Renovation Program for commercial building owners or tenants with owner's approval. The program provides extensive technical assistance and financial incentives to support a merchant in restoring the main façade, primarily, to its original look. Using the Secretary of Interior's Historic Preservation guidelines, efforts are made to rehabilitate the exteriors of our commercial buildings in the spirit of the original design. If all aspects of the façade are taken care of and the budget allows, consideration is then given to other issues that concern the building owner. DSCDO Commercial Development Specialist facilitates the planning process and acts as a liaison among the city staff, building owner and contractors to keep the project moving from start to finish.
At this time, the City is offering a low interest loan program for Storefront Renovation. A blended interest rate of 3% on loans valued up to $100,000 makes the program affordable and inclusive. The Loan program is generally available for all commercial structures in the Detroit Shoreway and Stockyards service areas.
